The invented term nusantafrika is a portmanteau of the Malay/Indonesian word nusantara, which generally refers to the Malay and Indonesian-speaking region in Southeast Asia, and Afrika, the Malay/Indonesian name for Africa.
Coming originally from Brunei (one of several nations within the Nusantara alongside Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Southern Thailand and East Timor) and having lived in East Africa for the last five years, nusantarafrika is my attempt to bridge the music of both worlds within the vein of my rock and blues sensibilities, a journey which I had started with the release of my self-titled EP a year ago.
I hope this album will reflect those intentions clearly and that you will join me in this musical journey.
